Benjamin Lumber first began in 1963 and was taken over by its current owners in 1976. This building has been dated back to the 1930's as a lumber store and it was formerly a feed store before that. Benjamin's sits beside the railroad tracks where the lumber deliveries use to be unloaded right from the railcars. Another interesting fact is the building we use for our wire fencing which use to be an "ice house". The floor of the shed was dug deep into the ground and when big blocks of ice were cut out of the river, they would be put down in the hole and covered with straw. A more modern ice house eventually came along and the old one was covered. However, we do not sell any block ice today.
